The living room

Big windows into the pines, a stone-surround electric fireplace (instant cozy, one switch), two sectionals and a record player for slow mornings.

Open kitchen and live-edge dining table under a wood-beamed ceiling
Main floor

Kitchen & dining

A real cook’s kitchen opens onto a long live-edge table under a wood-beamed ceiling and Edison pendants. The wood-burning fireplace is right there, and the deck is a few steps away, so dinner can move outside.

Main floor

The wood-burning fireplace

Stacked stone, a wood ceiling and mountain-range art above the mantel. It’s where the morning coffee crowd ends up, and where dinner runs late.

Top floor

The primary bath

A freestanding soaking tub under a window full of pine trees, a huge glass-walled marble shower and double sinks. The top floor is all yours.

Lower floor

The movie room

An oversized premium OLED TV, a sectional you’ll sink into and a second wood-burning fireplace. Kids downstairs, grown-ups upstairs: everyone wins.

The deck

A long deck in the treetops with lounge chairs, a grill and a view that goes on for miles. Dinner outside, then stay out for the sunset.

Outside

The hot tub

Sink in under the string lights, with tall pines on every side and mountain ridges in the gap between the trunks. Go at golden hour, or after dark when the stars come out.

The patio

Down on the lower patio, a ring of Adirondack chairs circles the fire pit. It’s where the day winds down, s’mores or not.

Traveling with kids

Built for family trips.

We have kids too, so Base Camp is set up for them: their own rooms, a play corner with a toy kitchen, a climbing wall, a movie room to call theirs, and a lake, a pool and a steam train within easy reach.

At the house

  • A bouldering wall with a crash pad on the covered deck
  • A play corner in the living room: toy kitchen, play cart, bins of toys, kids' books and a basket of balls
  • Two kids' rooms on the main floor: two twins, one twin, and two floor mattresses for sleepovers
  • A downstairs movie room with an oversized TV, so grown-ups get the living room
  • Two cabinets of board games, logic games and jigsaw puzzles in the movie room
  • A deck and patio for s'mores (propane fire pit in fire season)
  • Stars after dark: on a moonless night you can see the Milky Way

At the lake

  • Lake Lodge Beach has a playground right on the sand
  • Pedal boats, kayaks and paddleboards to rent by the hour (summer)
  • The free summer water taxi is a ride in itself
  • The heated community pool (Memorial Day to Labor Day)
  • The PML Kids Fishing Derby ($5, May–September)
  • Swim areas are marked but there are no lifeguards, so stay close

Day trips kids love

  • Railtown 1897: steam and diesel train rides, weekends April–October
  • Columbia State Historic Park: gold panning, a candy store and stagecoach rides
  • Tuolumne Grove: an easy walk to giant sequoias
  • Ice cream at Grove Mercantile in Groveland
  • Snow play and ski lessons at Dodge Ridge in winter
Game cabinet stocked with Wingspan, Codenames, Mastermind and stacks of jigsaw puzzles
The game cabinets

Rainy day? We've got you.

Two cabinets in the movie room are full of games and puzzles for every age: Wingspan, Codenames and Codenames Pictures, Scrabble, Mastermind, Quoridor, Quarto, Rush Hour Shift and Laser Maze, plus a stack of 1,000- to 3,000-piece jigsaw puzzles.

The climbing wall

A little bouldering wall, because of course.

We're climbers, so the covered deck has a bouldering wall with colorful holds and a crash pad. It's perfect for kids burning off energy and for grown-ups who can't resist. Please climb with an adult spotting, and only with the pad in place.

Traveling with a baby or toddler? Message us before your stay and we'll tell you what gear is at the house. The hot tub, deck and stairs all need grown-up supervision.
